Angelo Muto
Cantina dell'Angelo
Cantine dell'Angelo is a winery owned by the Muto family that artisanally produces Greco di Tufo, an authentic expression of the Irpinia territory. Founded in 1970, today the business is in the hands of Angelo, who belongs to the third generation.
Cantine dell'Angelo's 5 hectares of vineyards are planted only to Greco di Tufo and are divided into a plot in the area called Campanaro, which overlooks the ancient sulfur mines of Polveriera, and one with centuries-old vines in the historic Torrefavale vineyard. Soils rich in minerals and sulfur emanations give the wine special organoleptic characteristics. Angelo has chosen viticulture with a low environmental impact, with full respect for nature and the healthiness of the soil: in fact, weeding is not practiced. Activities in the vineyard are carried out exclusively by hand, as is the selection of the bunches of grapes. The grapes, once brought to the winery, undergo soft pressing and fermentation on indigenous yeasts at low temperatures so as to preserve the integrity of the aromas. The wine obtained in this way, without clarification, is left to mature naturally in steel containers until a product of the highest quality and unique characteristics is obtained.
Cantine dell'Angelo makes fine wines endowed with intense minerality, freshness and smoothness. The Greco di Tufo wines from this winery are a pure cross-section of the Irpinian territory, rich in simple and genuine aromas and flavors.
Selection
Miniere
Cantine dell'Angelo's Greco di Tufo "Miniere" is a Campania white that, starting from its name, wants to reveal its origins. That's right because the terroir where Greco grapes grow is rich in minerals, elements that are absorbed by the roots of the vines to be first transmitted to the grapes and then, thanks to a working process aimed at enhancing the varietal, to the final product. A decidedly authentic bottle, therefore, that tells us about one of the most important appellations in the entire region. It should be paired with fish recipes or with fresh cheese.
This "Miniere" Greco di Tufo Cantine dell'Angelo originates from vineyards located near Campanaro, right above ancient sulfur mines that give the terroir a particular mineral note. In the vineyard, every operation is carried out with an eye toward low environmental impact, respecting the surrounding nature and the health of the soil. The grapes are softly pressed, and fermentation of the must begins spontaneously, thanks to the presence of indigenous yeasts, in steel containers at low temperatures. The wine remains to stabilize for a few months in steel, and at the end of this brief aging period, it is bottled.
The white Greco di Tufo "Miniere" Cantine dell'Angelo presents itself visually with a golden color. The nose traces an interesting olfactory progression, where evident mineral notes mingle with fruity hints and nuances of sulfur. On the palate it is light-bodied, marked by a dry sip that shows good gustatory freshness as well as a distinct mineral core. A very territorial label, which tells of the Campanaro area, where sulfur mines flourished in the past, demonstrating the winery's production philosophy, eager to present bottles that show their genesis without veils.
