Piergraziano Sanna

Cantina Sannas

Tourism entrepreneur in San Teodoro, origins in Nuoro, he decided in 2016 to change his life. He bought a small house in the center of the village of Mamoiada and a small abandoned vineyard of just over one hectare, raised with the alberello system (low vine) in the locality of Sa'e Ghipadu, in the Cannonau estate. Piergraziano opts for unorthodox interventionism, demonstrating once again that wine is not only the fruit of technique, but also of sensitivity and creativity. His philosophy is as simple as it is powerful.

A lot of meticulous, manual work in the vineyard, then grapes harvested by hand (with a few integrations from ultra-century-old neighboring vineyards), crushed and put into old barrels for settling with long macerations. All together, without filtration, subtraction or racking. Only when it's time to bottle, a quick pass through steel, aeration and just a homeopathic dose of sulfur dioxide. Very few bottles, one red, one white and one rosé, all marked, contrary to what one might expect in central Sardinia, by an unusual and disorienting freshness.

Each of the wines produced bears a name taken from Sardinian popular culture: the pure Cannonau "Bobotti" is the evil, mysterious black man who has frightened children for generations; "Maria Pettena" is the woman who wanders around in summer after lunch and abducts disobedient children who don't want to rest, but who, thanks to Piergraziano's skilled hands, becomes a Cannonau rosé macerated on Granazza skins; "Maria Abbranca" is the woman in every well who, with her long arm, pulls down children who get too close: This is how Piergraziano named his Granazza.

Selection

Bobotti

Bobotti is the pure Cannonau produced by Piergraziano. A feminine wine, according to its creator's intentions, can brighten up romantic dinners. Bobotti is the bogeyman who, according to Sardinian tradition, frightens children. The grapes come from a small vineyard that Piergraziano cultivates in an absolutely natural way, avoiding even copper and sulfur treatments.

The wine is made without added yeast, keeping ancient local traditions. It matures for a year in old wooden barrels and a few months in bottles. It is neither filtered nor clarified before bottling.

Bobotti is ruby red in color. The nose is fruity, with notes of ripe raspberries and plums, Mediterranean maquis and spices. On the palate, it's warm, full-bodied, with excellent freshness, pleasant tannins and exceptional length. Bobotti is a graceful, charming Cannonau that will become the companion of everyday conviviality.

Maria Abbranca

Maria Abbranca is a complex, fascinating white wine made from white grapes grown on old vines without chemicals, with a sacred respect for nature.

100% Granazza in orange. Maceration on skins for 60 days, then aged in old barrels. A wine that combines fatness, tannin, length and substance, taking us back to the center of the Mediterranean, in a salty, lemony sensation.

With Maria Abbranca, Piergraziano offers us a complex, deep and persistent wine with a taste of ripe fruit and honeyed notes.

Definitely a wine for meditation and a must-try. A few hundred bottles per year.

Maria Pettena

Rosé produced from Cannonau grapes aged on Granazza marc for 40 days and matured in barrels for 10 months.

It is cherry-pink in color. The nose is clean, with fruity (cherry and wild strawberry) and floral notes.

Full-bodied on the palate, with good freshness and flavor. The finish is excellent, with a return of fruity notes. A graceful and very pleasant wine, with particularly incisive drinkability. A must-taste wine.

Juicy and fresh, it's lively and dry on the palate. The finish is elegant, invigorating, fresh and long.

A different approach to Sardinian rosés, always characterized in the Piergraziano style by freshness and vitality.
