Benjamin Zidarich

Zidarich

The extreme nature of the Karst has shaped a unique landscape, sometimes so fantastic that we are forced to contemplate with a sense of admiration and disbelief the vineyards that stand out against this magnificent and imposing territory. On the other hand, coming across Beniamino Zidarich compels us to look with admiration at everything he has managed to build: his cellar, his vineyard, literally torn from the austere rock of the Karst, and his bottles, the perfect representation of an extreme territory like the Karst.

The distinctive features of Beniamino Zidarich's wines describe the producer himself: the extreme legibility of the vineyard, the character of the wine, evident from the first encounter, perfectly draw the profile of the good Prepotto winemaker better than words. Beniamino has been able to build a great wine estate from a sincere understanding of the land and the vines that have always lived here. An almost revolutionary choice, even today, that has enabled him to deliver true, exciting wines. The vineyard is Beniamino's favorite place; small plots with traditional names now inseparable from his wines, such as Prulke, planted with Sauvignon, Malvasia and Vitovska.

Beniamino Zidarich concedes nothing to chemistry; in fact, he tries to interfere as little as possible with the plant's physiological balance, giving us wines that are even more natural and territorial. Unique wines, incredibly surprising: unique and expressive fruits of a unique and extraordinary territory.

Selection

Vitovska

Zidarich's Vitovska is a unique wine made from a rare and precious indigenous grape variety, grown only in a small area of the Karst near Trieste. It is a white wine produced by maceration on the skins in open vats, expressing fruity and wildflower aromas, combined with elegant iodine and slightly salty notes, reminiscent of its Mediterranean and marine origins. A spontaneous cross between Malvasia Bianca Lunga and Glera, Vitoska has adapted well to the windy climate and rocky terrain of the Karst, becoming a true symbol of the region.

Vitovska wine comes from vineyards in Prepotto, north of Trieste. This area is difficult, with almost outcropping limestone covered by a little red earth rich in iron minerals. The sunny Mediterranean climate is cooled by the Bora, which blows violently from the northeast. The Vitovska vineyards are located at an altitude of around 270 meters above sea level, with a southeast exposure, and are cultivated using the alberello and Guyot systems.

Vitovska white perfectly expresses the concept of a territorial wine, always made by hand. In the glass, it is an intense, almost golden yellow. On the nose, it expresses aromas of wild flowers, aromatic herbs and ripe fruit, with hints of the sea, iodine and salt. On the palate, it is rich, full and persistent, with balanced freshness and a delicious finish.

Prulke

Prulke di Zidarich is the apotheosis of the flavors and aromas of the combination of Sauvignon, Vitovska and Malvasia with a Friulian, more precisely karstic, signature. A winery renowned for its interpretation of Vitovska and for its production philosophy aimed at highlighting the pure, original characteristics of the region's typical grape varieties, Prulke is the child of it all: a happy union of grapes that, thanks to Benjamin Zidarich's skilful hand, express their original traits, without risk of distortion.

Zidarich's Prulke story begins between the last week of September and the first ten days of October, when the grapes are hand-picked from the reddish Karst soil. Once in the cellar, the grapes are de-stemmed, then fermented with indigenous yeasts and macerated on the skins in open vats. To enhance extraction of the typical characteristics of the vines, several punch-downs are carried out daily, with no temperature control. Malolactic fermentation then takes place in large oak casks, followed by aging in medium and large casks of naturally toasted French and Slavonian oak. Bottling is systematically carried out without any form of filtration, lasting around two years before being marketed.

Zidarich Prulke colors the glass a marvelous golden yellow with coppery, slightly veiled highlights. The rich nose, animated by notes of tangerine and lavender, makes you want to taste this wine. Cinnamon and peach complete the bouquet. Endowed with eternal drinkability, it impresses with a remarkable freshness coordinated with a clean flavor that makes for a lively, taut sip.

Prulke is a wine that would be reductive to link to single pairings; it surprises because it is multifaceted, meaning it can withstand various flavors and dishes to fill entire menus. A triptych of grape varieties that, as soon as you taste it, evokes a single name: Zidarich.
